I’m always a little surprised when I find myself falling into the imposter syndrome trap. I know I’ve written about it before, but each time it surfaces I realise there are more aspects to it which need to be explored.
If you’re the kind of person that enjoys a challenge and strives to learn more about yourself and others, you’re going to find (or put) yourself regularly outside your comfort zone. When you step into a different territory the light is different – when it shines on your coat of knowledge, it shows the patches where your skin is exposed. But now you’re in a pickle. Your curiosity has driven you here but your status might take a knock if people see your coat has holes.
But the opposite is true. More often than not people invite you in wholeheartedly and comment on what a colourful and interesting jacket coat you’re wearing. If they notice the holes, they usually say “I’ve got just the thing for that!” and whip out a perfect swatch of material and help you sew it on.
Vulnerability is a strength. Knowing you don’t know is still knowing.
