Perspective is an interesting thing. If you’re looking at the same things, the same landscape, the same city, it’s difficult to see it differently. You develop habits. But put yourself in a different environment and it suddenly gets easier. Change the people and the language and it’s almost like rebooting yourself. There are no familiar routes, no landmarks that make sense. Something as basic as communication with others cannot be taken for granted. You have to start again, finding your way around and trying to orient yourself on unfamiliar ground.
