Connecting the dots…

Creation

It’s rare that any creation, be it a work of art, a piece of music, a novel, a business idea or even a blog post comes out fully formed. It’s more likely to start off as a small kernel of an idea with not much surrounding it. When you focus on that idea and give yourself the space and time, you can see a few more connected kernels developing in the periphery. Slowly a picture starts to form and a skeleton becomes visible. It’s not ready for the world yet, but you can see the direction it’s heading. When you step back a bit, you see parts that need fleshing out and others that need to be rearranged. You lean in to the detail and swap a few things around – now the story arc starts to become really clear. Just a few more finishing touches and it’ll be ready to release into the wild. There, it’s done.

It takes time, perseverance and trust to deal with the uncertainty of not knowing exactly how it’s going to turn out as you go through the creative process. Lean into and embrace the moments of uncertainty. Frustration only makes it more difficult to perceive the golden thread in the mist.
