It’s all coming to a head…

I feel torn. Torn between the life I’d like to live in the context of the world we currently live in, and the life I expect I’m going to have to live in the world I know we’re going to be living in. Many signs have been pointing towards a hasty and sober reassessment of my life. Signs not necessarily always subtle. In fact, most are becoming garish neon signboards that loom over the road with the seeming intent of actually flicking you off the road.

I’ve been watching Terminator: the Sarah Connor Chronicles and one of the main themes is looking after our future by looking after our present. The future freedom fighters that time travel back to the present are acutely aware of what they have lost in the future. They’ll do anything to change the course of history and are not above making sacrifices that would seem inconceivable in any other circumstance.

However, they have something we don’t – time travel. Whether or not they manage to steer the course of history away from catastrophe has yet to be seen, but I’m afraid that most of us today are blissfully unaware of the ensuing catastrophe we face. Even more disturbing is that they seem to be DELIBERATELY avoiding taking cognisance of it. ‘Someone will sort it out’, we think to ourselves. ‘Someone will come up with a brilliant new idea that’ll fix it all and we can carry on like it never really happened’. Well it’s happening. Happening fast, and if someone does come up with a brilliant idea, let’s hope that it’s not too late. Because from where I’m sitting, the rollercoaster just got started, and no-one’s seen where the tracks go…
